The Bay Hill Marina and The Orange County Sportsman’s Association are two places in SW Orlando that you can gain private access to the Butler Chain of Lakes and have a place to store your boat. Both places do have a place to get gas so you don’t have to lug around a heavy gas tank or go through the hassle of driving a trailer through a busy gas station.
The Bay Hill Marina is located on Lake Tibet and offers plenty of boat slips for its members. The Marina is certainly the nicest place to store a boat in the water but it does come at a price. A social membership at Bay Hill provides access to the marina and pricing starts at $2,364 per year with an initiation fee of $6,000. A nice perk of this membership is that you gain access to Bay Hill’s full club facilities which includes clubhouse, pool, tennis courts, spa, and salon. The restaurant in the clubhouse is fantastic and a great added bonus.
The Orange County Sportsman’s Association located at 9020 Kilgore Rd. offers lake access on Lake Sheen. It’s definitely far more affordable than Bay Hill but you have to store your boat on a trailer here. The association also offers a rustic clubhouse, recreation and picnic areas, and two spacious boat ramps. It’s definitely a more relaxed atmosphere here. Membership fees are $400 for the first year and then $200 a year there after. With such an affordable price, there is a waiting list of about 2 years. The waiting list for spots to store your boat run approximately 5 years and costs an additional $135 per year. Talk about a long wait. To get in line you have to call 407-876-2010 and hopefully you get a reply in March that they have an opening. In the meantime, you can buy gas here without being a member so at least there’s a place to get gas.
Regardless, the Orange County Sportsman’s Association and the Bay Hill Marina offer residents of SW Orlando a boating lifestyle without actually having to live on the lake. Lake front living can be a pricey proposition in SW Orlando so at least there’s some places for the common folk.
