The town of Windermere and Orange County are fighting over the the $3 million dollars of tax money that’s generated from Isleworth. Windermere is trying to annex the community but Orange County is threatening to pull fire services if the deal goes through. Orange County says if Windermere wants Orange County fire services to respond to fires then they want to be paid for it. Mayor Bruhn of Windermere has been claiming that Orange County is trying to bully them and they will not have it. He also contends that he will look into building another fire substation if they get to annex Isleworth. I would hope so, the annexation will almost double Windermere’s revenue.
Isleworth is a community of just a few hundred homes albeit all in the million plus range and generates a heck of a lot of tax money. The debate has been going on for several months and this fire station issue ensures that it will go on for another few months. The town of Windermere should benefit from the additional revenue since it’s an extremely small town. You can drive through the entire downtown area in less than a minute going the 25 mph speed limit and nearly half the roads are unpaved. With all the news coverage, I’ve yet to hear what the town will do with the extra money. If anyone knows, please comment and share.
