I ran across an episode of Million Dollar Listing on Bravo flipping through channels the other night and of course being a real estate agent, I had to tune in. While there’s an interesting cast of characters on the show, I’ve got to say I’ve never come across any agents like these guys.
Most real estate agents I’ve worked with are pretty down to earth. I did this post because I think the show represents a very Hollywood version of my profession. My first impression was that this show was bogus, but after a bit I realized the characters exemplify an agent with all of their qualities amplified to the Nth degree.
The majority of the real estate agents I know work with honesty, integrity, and truly have their customer’s interests in mind. They’ll straight up tell you not to buy or sell if the situation warrants it. They’re some of the most opinionated people I’ve ever run across and not afraid to speak their mind.
Now there are a few black sheep, but agents are mostly just straight up bust your butt working stiffs. They work hard and endure a lot of frustration so I could empathize with the situations that the agents on the show were facing. I just think most agents approach those situations with much more tact, logic, and civility.
