First Look: Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center

August 22nd, 2008 · 3 Comments

Mayor Buddy Dyer just revealed the first renderings of the $400 million Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center scheduled to be completed in 2012. It’ll house a 2,800 seat theater and a 1,700 seat music hall.

I’m not sure if it’s worth all the tax dollars, but every big city has a nice art center. I personally can’t stand operas or classical music so it’s not gonna do me any good, but as long as it’s good for the city as they claim, then I’m all for it.

Looks pretty awesome to me! What is the exact location of the performing arts center, and when is it slated to open?

I believe it’s gonna be somewhere near Bob Carr in downtown Orlando and it’s scheduled to be completed in 2012. I’ve added a link to the site and floorplans that can be downloaded.

This is great! Downtown Orlando definitely needs a venue like this. I’ve seen many, many shows at Bob Carr; it’s not one of my favorite places.
