I just took some customers to see the townhomes at Pulte’s Berkshire Place community and I’ve got to say I was impressed. They have nice floor plans and many common upgrades such as granite counter tops, ceramic tile, designer light fixtures instead of the cheapo brass, and maple cabinets are already included. We went though the upgrades and you really can’t spend too much on upgrades because many of them are standard. One of the upgrades I recommend is the end unit. The extra windows really do add a lot more light into the home but you do lose a little wall space.
Best of all, most of the properties are priced under $200,000. We haven’t seen any new construction in this price for a long time in this area and I think it’s a fantastic choice. Keep in mind the market for condos and townhomes are not as good as the market for single family which isn’t saying a whole lot. It’ll also take longer to recover than single family homes. My suggestion is to have at least a 10 year time horizon when buying a townhouse today. In either case, I’d have to give the nod to Berkshire Place over Centerline Home’s development Preston Square and Park Square Home’s Newbury Park.
