Starbucks is for Dumb Asses

December 12th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Mickey D's Ad

With the ailing economy, businesses are becoming more cut throat with it’s advertising. According to an article on CNN, McDonald’s recently launched a billboard campaign exclaiming that paying $4 for Starbucks is for dumb asses. With the message plastered on over 14o billboards on some of the country’s most traveled real estate, the message is sure grab attention.

I have to admit I love Starbucks, but they charge you for Wifi which should be free at any legitimate coffee shop and even offered at McDonald’s for free. To be fair the coffee I normally get at Starbucks costs less than a couple bucks so the billboard is off base a little.

Nevertheless, you gotta admit it’s a funny ad.

Hojin – I have to agree with you re: pricing accuracy… as my typical Starbucks purchase runs under $2.00 as well. However, as you said – you can’t deny the “eye grabber” quality of the McDonald’s billboard!

I wonder if Starbucks will let it pass – or launch a retaliation campaign of sorts.

Ain’t Media and Consumer Culture fun?

Nice blog, by the way! Have added it to my Google Reader account. :)

Apparently, McDonalds is taking advertising and its freedom of speech too far. It’s okay to down the competition, but lacks class to resort to name calling.

The ad is abrupt and it might offend some people. What ever happened to the gentlman’s agreement to compete fairly?

I hear Dunkin’ Donuts coffee is also highly popular…
