Many people may now know, but Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacob’s political career launched right here in SW Orlando between Dr. Phillips and Metrowest. When it became time to reroute one of the main arteries in the area, namely Apopka Vineland Road, she got all the homeowner’s associations to work together which resulted in one of the most beautifully landscaped roads in the area. Her community of Palm Cove Estates was most affected by the rerouting and likely an impetus for Jacobs to get involved. It would be great if Conroy Windermere Road were landscaped the same.
This blog is far from political, but I’ve been pretty impressed with our new mayor so far. Recently when faced with whether to raise tolls to fund the building of the new extension for the Greenway, she said we don’t have the money and don’t have to build it right now. Whhaat? That never happens. I like it, especially since I4 is the only free highway in all of Orlando.
Anyway, she outlines her plan for Orange County to improve job growth, to relieve the housing market, improve education, providing more transparency in local government, etc. From the sound of things, we’ve got a lot to look forward to.
