Low Down on Camp Down at Lake Down

July 17th, 2011 · No Comments

It appears the lakefront camp on Lake Down in Windermere, FL known for a long time as Camp Down has now been renamed “The Pines”.  I noticed the sign recently and instantly thought there might be some new lakefront lots available on the Butler Chain of Lakes but it turns out that there’s just a new name.

The property is still owned by the Orlando Utilities Commission and available to be rented for public events. For me, it’s the place I go to vote. For others, it may be the place where the world’s top wakeboard pros make an annual pilgrimage in April for the Windermere Wakefest or Rasa-Lila Fest, a local Yoga festival.

It’s still same place with the same address: 3409 Maguire Road, Windermere, FL  34786. It just has a new name and a new sign at the entrance. There’s still those two old buildings alongside a beach and swimming area on Lake Down.

Here’s quirky video that gives you some insight into what it feels like to ski on the Butler Chain of Lakes. I think my favorite catch phrase of the week is WTF.
